Your journey begins in the morning as you leave Maun with our SPU Shuttle. Traveling along the southern edge of the vast Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, you’ll witness the striking transition from riverine woodland to the endless, white expanse of the pans.

Upon arrival at the Salt Pans Ultra Marathon Camp, take the day to settle in, explore the unique surroundings, and soak in the otherworldly beauty of this remote wilderness. Use this time to relax, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the big race ahead. As the sun sets over the pans, enjoy a sundowner at our race briefing in the pans and an dinner under the stars before turning in for an early night—ready for the adventure that awaits at dawn.

The moment you’ve been training for has arrived—race day at the Salt Pans Ultra Marathon! Either under the stars or as the first light breaks over the horizon, runners will set off across the seemingly endless expanse of the pans, testing their endurance in one of the most unique ultra marathons in the world. Whether you’re tackling the 50km or the grueling 100km distance, you’ll experience the raw beauty of this untouched landscape, with mirages dancing in the distance.

The race is as much a mental challenge as a physical one, pushing you to your limits in an environment unlike any other. After crossing the finish line, celebrate your achievement with fellow runners and enjoy a well-earned evening of rest and camaraderie at the camp.

After breakfast at the SPU base camp, the journey continues west toward Leroo La Tau, a stunning lodge perched on the high banks of the Boteti River. The drive offers a gentle change of scenery as runners leave the salt pans behind and approach the river systems that edge the Makgadikgadi.

Leroo La Tau is situated on the western bank of the Boteti River, which forms the natural boundary of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The Boteti is a vital water source for the wildlife that moves through this otherwise arid region and plays a critical role in Botswana’s famous annual zebra migration. From its elevated position, the lodge overlooks the river’s edge, offering spectacular views of elephants, zebra, and other wildlife as they come down to drink. It’s the perfect base from which to explore this unique corner of Botswana — a peaceful, wildlife-rich contrast to the vast openness of the salt pans.

Leru La Tau offers guided game drives in the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park focusing on the exceptional wildlife sightings along the Boteti River. September and October are the month to see the unique zebra migration in the Makgadikgadi when the big herds are gathering along the Boteti River.

Depending on the water level, boat activities are also provided. Optional cultural excursions can be arranged to Khumaga Village as well as day trips to Nxai pan.

Leroo La Tau translates as ‘lion’s paw’ but, although the surrounding area features abundant Lion, Zebra and Wildebeest, it also boasts Chobe Bushbuck, Leopard, Cheetah, Brown and Spotted Hyena, Impala, Kudu, Jackal, Porcupine, Genet and Caracal, to name but a few.

After breakfast at Leroo La Tau, your journey continues as you fly into the iconic Okavango Delta and settle into Camp Moremi, one of the region’s most charming and intimate safari camps. Tucked beneath ancient trees in the Xakanaxa area of the Moremi Game Reserve, Camp Moremi offers an immersive blend of luxury and wilderness. You’ll be welcomed into one of twelve spacious thatched safari tents, each with generous interiors, elegant bathrooms, and a private deck overlooking the reserve. The camp also offers a beautifully designed family tent with two bedrooms and interleading doors — perfect for those travelling together.

In the afternoon, you’ll have time to explore the lodge’s relaxed communal spaces, from the sunken bar built around an ebony tree to the lounge, library, and elevated dining deck. Stroll the boardwalk to the firepit overlooking the bush, cool off in the secluded swimming pool, or simply unwind and take in the sounds of the Delta. As evening falls, enjoy dinner in the open-air boma or on the raised deck, surrounded by one of Botswana’s most wildlife-rich regions.

Today is dedicated to exploring the diverse ecosystems of the Moremi Game Reserve by vehicle. After an early breakfast, you’ll head out on a morning game drive with Camp Moremi’s highly skilled professional guides, navigating through woodlands, floodplains, grasslands, and savanna—all alive with wildlife. Keep an eye out for leopards resting in the branches of mopane trees, elephants feeding under thick green canopies, and lions blending perfectly into the long grass. Moremi’s wetlands also support an impressive range of antelope, from impala and kudu to the elegant waterbuck.

After returning to camp for lunch and some downtime, you’ll head out again in the afternoon for another game drive, offering completely different light, movement, and sightings. Birdlife here is exceptional, and you may spot everything from fish eagles and kingfishers to the famously elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl. The day ends back at camp with sundowners around the fire, sharing stories from an unforgettable day on safari.

Today you’ll experience the Okavango Delta from the water—a quiet, immersive way to connect with this extraordinary wilderness. After breakfast, explore the Xakanaxa Lagoon and its surrounding channels by boat, drifting through reed-fringed waterways where wildlife approaches from unexpected angles. Hippos, crocodiles, elephants along the banks, and countless bird species make this a serene yet exciting part of the journey.

In the afternoon, you’ll continue your water-based exploration with a traditional mokoro experience when water levels allow. Guided by experts, you’ll glide silently through shallow channels, passing waterlilies, papyrus stands, and mirrored reflections of the Delta sky. This slower, more intimate vantage point reveals the delicate details of the ecosystem and offers exceptional photographic opportunities. After your return to camp, enjoy a relaxed final evening at Camp Moremi—poolside, at the bar, or around the fire—soaking in the peaceful rhythms of the Delta.

After breakfast at Camp Moremi, you’ll board a scenic flight to the Chobe River, where your next stop awaits: the iconic Chobe Game Lodge, the only permanent lodge inside the Chobe National Park. This elegant riverfront property blends luxury and wilderness seamlessly, offering forty-four beautifully appointed, air-conditioned rooms—each with a private terrace facing the river. Guests seeking an elevated experience can opt for one of the exclusive river-view suites, complete with a private plunge pool and separate lounge area.

Once settled in, spend the afternoon exploring the lodge’s impressive communal spaces. With multiple viewing decks, lounges, bars, and open-air dining areas, Chobe Game Lodge is designed to feel both expansive and peaceful. Relax at the large swimming pool, enjoy a drink with river views, or book a treatment with the in-house beautician. The lodge is fully accessible and thoughtfully designed to accommodate all travelers, ensuring comfort, space, and excellent service throughout your stay.

Today you’ll head deep into Chobe National Park for a full day of land-based safari exploration, with a focus on Safari in the national park. After an early breakfast, set out on a morning game drive in open-sided 4×4 vehicles, led by Chobe Game Lodge’s expert guides. Chobe is famous for its dramatic landscapes and exceptional predator sightings, and you may encounter lion prides, wild dogs, giraffe, sable, roan antelope, and large herds of buffalo moving across the plains.

After returning to the lodge for lunch and some rest, the adventure continues with a late-afternoon game drive—this time with the option to experience one of the lodge’s electric-powered vehicles for an immersive, low-noise, carbon-neutral safari. Chobe’s elephants are the stars of this region, especially in the dry months, when hundreds gather on the riverfront and surrounding floodplains. The day ends with sundowners and the quiet magic of the African bush settling in around you.

Your final safari day focuses on experiencing the Chobe River from the water—one of the most unique and memorable vantage points in all of Botswana. After breakfast, join a morning safari along the riverbanks, where elephants, buffalo, red lechwe, puku, and countless other species gather to drink and feed. The combination of land and water activity offers exceptional photographic opportunities and an entirely different perspective of the ecosystem.

In the afternoon, you’ll embark on Chobe Game Lodge’s solar-electric boat cruise—an eco-friendly, silent safari that allows you to drift close to wildlife without disturbance. Watch hippos surface, crocodiles sunbathe on the banks, and elephant herds wade into the river to swim, drink, and play. As the sun sets over the Chobe River, you’ll enjoy one of the most iconic scenes in African safari travel, marking a memorable end to your wilderness adventure.

After a final relaxed morning at Chobe Game Lodge, it’s time to say goodbye to the wilderness. You’ll be transferred to Kasane International Airport for your onward flight home.

For guests who wish to extend the adventure, there is also the option to continue your journey with a visit to the spectacular Victoria Falls, just a short transfer away. You may choose to stay one or two additional nights to explore the falls, enjoy activities in the area, and round off your safari experience at your own pace.
